DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES FOR THE IV EDITION OF THE GIL SOUNDTRACK AWARD 2022 HAS ENDED

29 / 06 / 2022

The 4th edition of the competition that rewards the best soundtrack for a short lm with 50,000 euros, has just closed the registration period with the participation of 153 young composers from 28 nationalities. Spain participates with 48% of the entries.

This international prize for young composers aged 18 to 35 is the only one of its kind in the world and aims to promote and highlight the work and talent of young composers. From the total number of works submitted, a committee of experts will select 12 finalist compositions, which will be made public on 8 October 2022. At that time, the finalists will be evaluated by the Jury, which will decide the winning composition.

"Lo que siembras" (What you sow)
The short film chosen in this edition to compose its soundtrack is a story full of emotions and feelings that represents the values of the Gil family, values such as tradition and the fact that the important thing is to be able to be part of a family even if you were not born into it. The title also refers to the popular saying that "what you sow, you reap", and the main character reaps what he has sown in life.
The short film was selected from a previous script competition in collaboration with the ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) and produced by the same with a team made up entirely of students and graduates of the school.

Alejandro Amenábar President of the Jury

Alejandro Amenábar, winner of an Oscar and 7 Goyas, filmmaker and composer of film soundtracks, is the president of a jury of exceptional quality. As in previous editions, the jury is made up of renowned and award-winning professionals in symphony orchestra conducting, soundtrack composition, film and music production and distribution at national and international level, as well as a member of the founding family of Viñas Familia Gil, organisers of the competition.
In previous editions the jury has counted with great international figures such as the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle, the American composer Bruce Broughton or the Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, winner of an Oscar for the film "Joker".

Viñas Familia Gil is a century-old winemaking group (1916-2016) with its own vineyards and wineries in 10 Spanish Designations of Origin and a commercial presence in more than 40 countries. In 2016, on the occasion of its centenary, the first edition of the Gil Soundtrack Award was launched, a biennial initiative born with a vocation to support and promote culture. A project that is also a way of giving back to society for all these years, promoting opportunities so that young talent can continue to advance.
