The most important soundtrack contest in the world already has 12 finalists

12 finalists are competing to win the 50,000 euro Gil Soundtrack Award 2020, the largest soundtrack competition in the world. These 12 young musicians compete by setting music to the short film “Somos Tierra”, a film by Agustina Macri that tells us about starting over, the journey of life and respect for our roots. In the most complex year in its history, the Gil Soundtrack Award 2020 has broken the record of participation with 250 works presented by musicians between 18 and 35 years old.  The 50,000 euro prize for the winner is intended to complete their musical career. Musicians between 18 and 35 years old from Spain, USA, UK, Irán, Italy, France, México, Canada, Argentina, Rusia, Colombia, Brasil, Gemany, Australia, Venezuela, India, China, New Zeland, Japan, Belgium… up to 43 countries, have gathered their creativity as composers at the service of the short film “Somos Tierra”, signed by the filmmaker Agustina Macri. Gil Family Estates has maintained its support for culture by opening its 3rd soundtrack contest during confinement and Oscar winner for “Joker”, will preside this summer the Gil Soundtrack Award 2020 jury

In an unprecedented global conjuncture, with students from around the world confined at home for months, the Spanish wine group Gil Family Estates opted to start the third edition of the Gil Soundtrack Award, an international award that supports general culture and musical talent in particular, and guarantees the financing of the winner’s career with € 50,000. Nominations are open until August 6th, 2020. The first woman to ever win the Oscar for the Best Original Soundtrack by Joker, Hildur Guðnadóttir, will supervise the works presented and will preside the jury. Candidates must compose the soundtrack for the short film “Somos Tierra”, signed by Agustina Macri and which presents us a story about the family, the challenges of leaving home, starting over again and the roots linked to territory. The challenge that the contest proposes to all the participants, musicians from 18 to 35 years old, is to compose the best soundtrack for the short film “Somos Tierra”. A film with an unexpected ending, linked to the land, the vineyard and the family, and which underlines the values that the land brings to each person throughout their lives, respect and strength to face the future. The piece has been directed by Argentine filmmaker Agustina Macri, winner of the Best International Film Award, at the Barcelona International Festival 2019 and author of documentaries, series and collaborations with Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime, as well as “Messi10” for Cirque du Soleil.   Hildur Guðnadóttir to preside over the 2020 jury. The objective of the award and the work of the jury is to claim that, without a soundtrack, there is no emotion. Audio-visual language relies on music to create emotions in the viewer.   The jury has had great international figures in the two previous editions. On July 31 will be known the 12 finalists 2nd Juan Gil International Soundtracks Contest

The day of June 9th , 2018 was the deadline to participate in the 2nd Juan Gil International Soundtracks Contest From then on as established by the contest regulations, the committee will select the twelve finalist works, process that will end on July 31, 2018. The list with the names of the finalists and the title of the submitted soundtracks will be published on the website and previously it will be communicated to the selected finalists. Among the twelve finalist works, the jury board chaired by Patrick Doyle and also including Roque Baños, Lucio Godoy, Constantino Martínez-Orts and Juan Gil Vera, will choose the winning work. The jury’s decision will be published on October 2nd, 2018 on the official contest website once the winner has been informed. The award ceremony will take place on November 15, 2018 in the auditorium Víctor Villegas in the town of Murcia. During the ceremony  the Film Symphony Orchestra conducted by Constantino Martínez-Orts will offer a concert, and the short  film “Essence” will be displayed as the basis for the contest while the award-winning soundtrack will be performed.
